WE HAVE DECIDED NOT TO DIE

On Thursday, March 18, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, the Arlington Arts Center will host a panel discussion about radically altered bodies in our not-too-distant future. The event is FREE and open to the public.

Mel Chin on Studio 360

Mel Chin appeared on the NPR program Studio 360 over the weekend. He discussed lead poisoning problems in New Orleans with reporter Eve Abrams, and even took her on a tour of his SAFEHOUSE--the fundred repository that the artist has built in the St. Roch neighborhood. Listen to this portion of the program in the player below:

Mel Chin @ AAC, part 2: The Fundreds are Coming!

First, as we've already announced: Mel Chin will be giving a free lecture on Tuesday, March 24, from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm, at the Arlington Arts Center as part of the closing party for PUBLIC/PRIVATE, our current show juxtaposing art out in the world that requires the viewer’s direct physical participation with works about the artist’s immediate social or domestic sphere.

Mel Chin at AAC in March

On the evening of Tuesday, March 24, come to the Arlington Arts Center for a special closing event for PUBLIC/PRIVATE, featuring a special guest lecture by Mel Chin.

Mel Chin is an internationally recognized contemporary artist; he was notably featured in the first season of PBS’s acclaimed Art:21 series. His unconventional approach to making art perfectly matches the collaborative, community-based project work seen in the PUBLIC half of AAC’s current PUBLIC/PRIVATE show.

PUBLIC/PRIVATE in the press

So PUBLIC/PRIVATE opened last Friday, and already the show is getting noticed.
