NEW DEADLINE! We are currently accepting applications for a space in the group studio. Applications are due by January 15, 2010 and artists will be notified the following week. The studio is available as of February 1, 2010. Please contact our office to be added to our mailing list; our monthly e-newsletter gives updates about current and upcoming events, programs, and artist opportunities.
All professional visual artists living in the Washington, DC metropolitan area are eligible to apply. The program is not designed for commercial artists. A call for applications is sent out in the event of a studio vacancy. To receive notice of vacancies, make sure you are on our electronic mailing list and receive our monthly newsletter. Applications are reviewed by a panel of arts professionals. Resident Artists must agree to a series of commitments and conditions when signing a two-year lease.
- Artists must keep their AAC membership active.
- Artists must use the studio a minimum average of 80 hours per month (60 for the group studio). The studio may only be used for art-making activities.
- Artists are responsible for maintaining the studio in a safe and reasonably tidy manner, and cannot make alterations to the space without permission.
- Artists are responsible for acquisition and care of their materials and equipment, and for any insurance on their work or equipment.
- Artists must observe all AAC rules, including security regulations, use of studio, cooperation with staff and other artists, and timely payment of rent.
- Each artist must be available to the public at specified periods throughout the residency in order to fulfill AAC required community outreach participation.
We do not keep a waiting list for studio space.
