Allison Bianco, Gram's Beach House, 2009, silkscreen on chipboard, muslin, feiber foam, 8 x 12 x 4 inches
JAN 18 - MARCH 24, 2013 OPENING RECEPTION: SAT JAN 19, 6 - 9 PM PHOTO GALLERY
This exhibition seeks to emphasize and expand the creative dialog around the ever-blurring boundaries between craft, design and fine art; the artwork includes sculpture, fiber, photography, video, and mixed media work. The two jurors, Melissa Messina and Kathryn Wat, were especially interested in artists who explore DIY practices, engage in the reclamation of craft-based materials, re-examine design aesthetics, and otherwise reinvent cross-disciplinary genres within the dialog of contemporary art. Melissa Messina is Senior Curator of SCAD Exhibitions (Savannah College of Art and Design); Kathryn Wat is Chief Curator, National Museum of Women in the Arts. To find out more about how and why the curators chose these particular artists, read the interview in the WPA's newsletter.
