This course is for students of all levels, but no previous experience is required. Participants will be encouraged to experiment with new media and learn techniques in a relaxed environment.

Drawing & Painting: The Figure
Tuesdays, Apr 18 thru Jun 6, @ 6:30 - 8:30 pm

Both beginning and advanced students are welcome to explore drawing and painting in this course where we’ll capture the spirit and vitality of the human form. Activities will include quick gesture poses and contour drawings, as well as longer poses. To create lively, expressive drawings and paintings, students will use materials including graphite, charcoal, and acrylic paint.

We will not approach the human form with mathematical lessons on proportion. Instead, emphasis will be on ways of seeing, and students will be guided through exercises designed to capture the essence of the remarkable human form.

We will draw and paint from a clothed or nude figure model during this eight-session course. Model fees are included in the cost of this course. Supplies are not included in the cost of this class. One week prior to the class' start date, a supply list will be emailed to all students.

Drawing I-III: The Art of Seeing
Tuesdays, Apr 18 thru Jun 6, @ 6:30 - 8:30 pm

Process-oriented exercises in line, value, mark-making, and gesture will help you record what you see in pencil or charcoal. Using a range of 2D and 3D subjects, including still life, the human form, masterworks, and animals.

Beginners are welcome, as well as experienced students interested in refreshing rusty drawing skills. Drawing II students will be provided more complex subject matter and technique instruction, including the introduction of color. Drawing III students may work with the instructor to develop independent projects.

Class will not be held on May 2 and May 30. Supplies are not included in the cost of this class. One week prior to the class' start date, a supply list will be emailed to all students.

Experimental Painting
Wednesdays, Apr 19 thru Jun 7, @ 6:30 - 8:30 pm

In art-making and other fields, play can be a vital tool for experimentation and innovation. Beginning students will gain confidence as they work through experimental painting exercises, while more experienced students will be challenged to do something new.

All skill levels are welcome to explore representational and/or abstract painting in this relaxed, supportive class. Our instructor will offer one-on-one instruction, and lead informal discussions to create a learning environment where knowledge and skills are shared by all participants.

Supplies are not included in the cost of this class. One week prior to the class' start date, a supply list will be emailed to all students.
