H-B Woodlawn Secondary Program: Out of Place
on view: April 8 - June 11, 2017
This exhibition will present seven H-B Woodlawn Seniors who have spent their high school careers focusing on the visual arts. Embedded in their artwork are many shared qualities and memories, but also a number of differences.
Out of Place as our exhibition theme and title because it embraces and captures each individual's experience while also knitting them together. While engaged in high school, each artist has felt out of place at one time or another, and that anxiety, disengagement, and confusion has been channeled into the artworks on view.
Being Out of Place is a commonality amongst teenagers in their social lives; whether it be with family, friends, or strangers, places or experiences, or even within one’s own body. These young artists celebrate and accept this truth, rather than trying to hide this experience.
