Spring Break Escape! March 25 - 29

Join us at AAC for an art-making travel-inspired week of fun!

Registration begins Monday, February 11, 2013. Please register early. Our class sizes are small and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

ART CLASSES FOR CHILDREN DURING SPRING BREAK

Art supplies are provided and material fees are included in the cost of classes. Our faculty care-fully designs each class to be appropriate for the grades designated below. Please be sure to register your child for their grade level. Tuition assistance is available for children of qualifying families. Please inquire about tuition assistance forms and requirements.

Sign up for for the morning session, or the afternoon session, or both, Monday through Friday.

For students taking one session:
During art activities, children will take mini-breaks when needed. Weather permitting these breaks may be outdoors on our grounds. Please provide outdoor attire for your child.

For students taking two sessions:
Only students registered for consecutive classes are automatically enrolled for supervised breaks between their sessions. Parents: please pack a bag lunch. Food break lasts a half an hour, and is followed by playtime outside or indoors depending on the weather conditions that day. Please provide outdoor attire for your child. Contact the office in advance if you do not wish your child to partake in the mid-day break.

Free 9 am – 10 am Reading Room Session for all children registered for 10 am classes.

From the classroom, travel somewhere new everyday through the magic of art! Explore traditional arts of Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and America. Inspired by these cultures, learn about the history of art making with a variety of techniques. Make prints for a multimedia art piece. Watercolor on rice paper with reed brushes. Create a landscape of your block in Arlington as though it were farmland in the 1800’s. Students registered for this class are enrolled in a 9am reading room session. Only students additionally registered for Travel to the Renaissance are enrolled in a one hour supervised break between sessions.

Travel back in time to experience the Renaissance in Italy. Hop on a gondola in Venice and make a Carnavale mask. Paint your family into a golden triptych scene worthy of Fra Angelico. Practice fresco painting after Giotto. Then DaVinci will be your art maestro for your atmospheric perspective lesson. There will be plenty of painting and drawing in this journey. After this class you will look at your artwork and state, “Che Bello”.

Let your imagination travel to the most dynamic city in the world, NEW YORK CITY! There, many artists have been inspired. You will be too, when your mind travels to different locations along 5th Avenue’s Museum Mile. Included in this 5 day expedition your imagination will soar to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim, and the Neue Galerie. This week you will work in oil pastels, collage, and paint to create your own real and imagined worlds. Students registered for this class are enrolled in a 9am reading room session. Only students additionally registered for Spanish Excursion are enrolled in the one hour supervised break between sessions.

Seek your artistic inspiration from several exceptional artists that hail from Spain. Study the work of Varo, Gaudi, Picasso, and Calatrava to create eclectic colorful collages, 3D figures, emotive drawings, and architecture inspired by nature. Learn color theory, the difference between tint and shade, and how to use organic line. This bilingual offering is open to Spanish and non-Spanish speakers. As students create art they practice Spanish vocabulary, pronunciation and phrases related to their themes and projects.
