Flight of Imagination

Ages 4-6

Throughout time, artists imagined past, present, and future in their works of art. Let your imagination soar as you explore the world of dreams and time-travel to inspire you to create fantastic mixed media artworks. Be inspired by a variety of artists from different eras including a 6th century Babylonian artist, 20th century Henri Rousseau, and contemporary Polish artist Jacek Yerka. Projects will include painting, working with clay, collage and more.

Vacation Station
Ages 4-6

All aboard! Destination: vacation! This is an opportunity to make art about the best time of year and record your best summer yet. Draw in the style of Jesse Oonark, an Inuit artist, to portray the longest day of the year and all of the fun activities that would take place. Make a watercolor painting of the summer time star constellation night sky. Construct a visual journal with fold out pages and artifact compartments to record and retain great times throughout the summer.

Nests, Caves, & Other Animal Nooks
Ages 4-6

Learn about different kinds of animals and where they live. Using a variety of materials, including clay, paint, and found objects, you will make caves, nests, and even a textured armadillo – an animal that carries its own animal nook.

Magnificent Murals
Ages 7-10

Do you have a wall aching for artwork? Make it! Review the work of modern and contemporary muralists and graffiti artists for inspiration. Use an image bank to inspire content for your murals. Learn how to vary scale and positive/ negative space, build color relationships, and create illusion using contrasting color and shapes. Sketch your idea and create a colorful painting on paper you can exhibit on a wall at home.

Mystical Creatures and Landscapes
Ages 7-10

Enter into a land of magical creatures. Inspired by fairytales, mythology, and folklore students will develop their own characters by drawing, painting, and other media. With some help from your golden wand (in this case a pencil or a paintbrush) you will create the worlds these characters inhabit.

Flipbooks to Animation
Ages 7-10
3:00 – 4:30 PM
Starting with simple drawings, you will be able to create the illusion of motion in a fun flipbook that will become your very own video short. Learn a variety of techniques such as composition, sequencing, flashbacks, color palette, tight shots, and long shots to create variety and convey mood in a storyboard. You will also work on character development and a dynamic narrative to enhance the story’s plot. This course is part of a Cartooning and Sequential Arts series offered this summer. Offerings include: Comic Book Heroes & Villains (week 2) ,The Comic Strip (week 3 ), Flipbooks to Animation (week 5 ),Comic Book Composition (week 6), and Storyboards to Short Film (week 8). Cartooning and Sequential Arts classes can be taken individually or as a complete series.
